Skin Tones

**This is a sticky GIVEAWAY post, please scroll down for more recent news**

The top question I'm asked, here on my blog, at demos and classes, and by email is... "what colours do I use for white/asian/black/indian/mexican skin?"
Well, to be honest that's a little like "how long is a piece of string?" because it's really all to do with personal preference. For instance, for white (caucasian) skin I use Burnt Orange, Coral, Sunkissed Pink and Blush - and when people see how dark the Burnt Orange is, they panic. When I started out with promarkers, over 3 years ago, I used Blush and Ivory. Some girls use Peach, Vanilla, or Satin - it's all down to experimenting and seeing what you like best. I tried lots of combinations betwen starting out and now, but I really like the healthy glow I get with the combo I use nowadays.

But I sat down and decided to work out some colour combos that I like for various skin colours, hopefully this will help you to experiment with colour combos and it's also a great guide for me, so hopefully you'll see more ethnicities being represented on my blog. And I also threw in a bit of a wildcard - you know how I have a bit of a thing for wild hair colours, well I decided to go with a wild skin colour too lol
So would you like to see all the colour combos I came up with?
And would you like to win the 11 colours I used for the Black, Asian and Hispanic skin tones?
All you have to do is this.....
  1. Visit my Skin Tones post on the Letraset blog and leave a comment
  2. Pop back here and leave a comment telling me which is your favourite, or what colour combos you prefer to use
  3. Leave your details in the inLinkz below
Giveaway ends 12 noon GMT on Tuesday 14th August

Thanks for visiting,
I appreciate any comments

They all look fab, but I think I prefer your black and white caucasion ones. Since I don't own any promarkers (yet) I cannot share my own combinations.

Ohhh it's hard to pick a fave. I love the Hispanic/ Mexican/ tanned skin, a healthy sorta glow. I also love the last one though - perfect for a zombie Halloween. Ohhh but the second one, with the pale look would be perfect for fairies and stuff!!

Debbi. I love you. :) xo

My favourite of your skin tones is the combo with chestnut, terracotta, ginger and coral. For myself I use blush, saffron and pastell pink the most time. But I'll try your combos the next time.

My favourite is your Flexmarker girl using the Rose Peach, Sunkissed Pink & Blush for she makes me think of what a typical English Rose colouring would look like.
Love her eyes.

Each one of these images are so well done I've really had a hard time choosing. The one I like the best would have to be the top left. I've had a lot of trouble with that skin tone and your examples have helped me very much. Thanks for a chance to win your markers. XOXO

The ideas you've shown for skintones are fab - colours I would never think of using! The colours I normally use for skin are blush, oatmeal and pastel pink - I've not tried darker skintones yet.

I'm still fairly new to using alcohol pens, so I'm a bit of a scaredy cat with bolder colours. I've just found your blog through Kath's bolg and following you too now.

thank you for sharing your tips as a relative newbie to promarkers skin tones can be scary. I love your combination and going to give them a try with the promarkers i have although not all of them...my favourite is number 4 which is more my kind of tones, although the last on is funky and works so well with the digi, its ace.
I usually use satin with sun kissed pink and or peach playing it safe but now I'm going to try and go bold thank you x

Elke said...

Thank you so much Debbie, I love the camouflage combo. So funky. Would love to try them. XX

Hi,
I like the combination with the burnt orange the most but the one with the flexmarkers is nice too, ui think i have to see them for real before i make up my mind.
I mostly use pastel pink for the cheeks, and dusky pink for shades and blush to finish the skin tone.

I like the Flexmarker girl too, I've never used them for skin tending to always stick with the colours I'm comfortable with - I'm going to give this a go. Thanks for an interesting post x

Thanks so much for this ,I really struggle with face colours,I'm not good at blending so perhaps I'm using the wrong paper . As a blonde I love the pinkish tones but my favourite is the top right.
At some stage all these variations will come into my colouring.

i don't think I can choose a combination I like best. They are all great. Thank you Debbie.

Your coloring is absolutely amazing! I am always looking for new ways to do the skin tones and you've inspired me to do some coloring today. The flexmarker girl a lot, however, the chamo one is striking as well.
Thanks for the inspiration - I use copic markers currently, but have heard so much about these markers that I would love to give them a try some day.
Warm Hugs,
Katherine
