Travel Journal Folio

This is one of those projects that you wont get finished in class, it's designed for you to take home and complete with your own photos, knick-knacks and souvenirs.

So we started out with the small Tim Holtz folio - the wee foldy up bitty that you get for the inside to make the spine of all the pages and inserts is so simple and so clever.

So we used my very favourite card - Oyster Contour from Papeterie Crafts - this is great card, it's paler than the Ranger Manilla and has a hammered texture, and best of all it stands up to lots of distressing techniques, and because of the hammered finish you get some gorgeous finishes.

So we clear embossed some of the stamps before we distressed all the panels I had pre-cut with a mixture of Tumbled Glass, Broken China, Gathered Twigs, and Evergreen Bough distress inks, splattered some water at them, and used the same inks to do some stamping.

 Then we got to the fun bit, adding all sorts of tags, diecuts, pockets, fold-outs etc to the spine. So there was lots more distressing going on, and adding some rub-ons and chit-chat stickers....as well as making a clever wee travel journal with lots of pages, from the Tim Holtz Vintage Valise die

Anyone for Wine?

Hi again,
back with another project from the craft retreat - this time I'm sharing an altered wine box. I always have at lease one bottle of something to give as a gift at xmas, and by decorating the box it comes in it kinda doubles the gift.
So I'd been experimenting with the Sizzix hexagon dies - they are designed to be used for quilting, but I've used them here to create a faux quilted effect.
Basically I die cut a load of hexagons from the galvanised and gold leaf paper from Papeterie Crafts. I've used paper for a reason - I used card for the first prototype and found the card was a bugger to stick round the box, it kept trying to lift. The paper is 120gsm so it's a good weight to work with.
I decided on how many different designs I wanted and put the diecuts into equal piles.... some were stamped using Tim Holtz stamps and Ranger White Pigment ink, some are embossed with Tim Holtz embossing folders, some are heat embossed and some are just plain for contrast.

Because the hexagons don't fit perfectly around the wine box, I filled the gap and covered the lid with some Ranger Foil Tape that I'd embossed.
It doesn't matter if the hexagons are stuck on perfectly - I used a bottle of distress stickles to hide any gaps. 
You could always add more embellishments - maybe some die cut poinsettias or snowflakes  to the box - or even a sleigh and some reindeer.

Dearie Me

I should just start every post with "Long time no see..." lol
There's no point in apologising, I'm sure you all realise that life gets so busy at times that you run out of time to blog, or even craft.
Since we last spoke I've moved house again, back out to the country, so it's meant a bit of upheaval for everyone, especially the kids who have all had to start at new schools. But kids are resilient creatures and they've taken it all in their stride and settled in really well - although they have had the odd wobble, and miss their old friends, they have been amazing. Even Scott has commented on what an improvement his new school is.
So we've also had a few birthdays, Faith was 9 in the summer, Scott turned 16 (I know, how the hell did that happen!!) last month and Willow was 11 just the other week and oh boy those hormones are running riot there! Graham's birthday was today, but as he's offshore we celebrated it last week when I had my day off.
We've been incredibly busy at work too, we had our Winter Craft Retreat in September, which was a huge success - so much so that we're almost fully booked for the Spring Retreat, then we had Scraptacular, which was a new venture for us and something we're hoping to develop further for next year, and various classes and wedding exhibitions too.
I have to say, I really enjoy the wedding exhibitions. Its so nice to talk to couples who are all excited about their wedding and hearing about their plans.
Anyway, now that we're pretty much caught up on all my news, I'd love to hear how all of you are in blogland.
So because it's been an age since I shared any crafting I'm going to schedule in some posts featuring the projects I created for the Winter Craft Retreat.

This was one of the first classes I taught at this year's winter retreat - back to using one of my favourite media... alcohol inks.
I used a selection of Adirondack alcohol inks and Letraset inks on a variety of surfaces including glossy card and heat resistant acetate.

Tim Holtz Tiles

Hi again,
back again with another project form the craft retreat - this time I decided to alter a couple of mdf tiles. These tiles are quite inexpensive but are so easy to work with.
The first one I used to demonstrate that it's not necessary to paint or prepare these tiles to make something lovely...

First we stamped the raised frame part using a brown ink, the centre panel was made using a piece of oyster contour card. First we clear embossed an image, then coloured the panel with distress ink, stamped with the same colour of ink, then flicked water at it for the splatter effect. The butterfly was also clear embossed and coloured in the same way then fussy-cut and attached over the die cut trellis

The second one was used to demonstrate a completely contrasting finish, lots of bright colours and a primed base...

The frame part of the tile was painted with a chalk effect paint for a matt finish. the background was clear embossed as before, but this time we used some nice bright colours to colour it and black archival ink to stamp a sentiment. The feathers were diecut and embossed the coloured with the same colours of distress ink, with bakers twine added to finish it off

Thank you all for the lovely comments I got welcoming me back to blogland, it's going to take me a wee while to get back into the swing of blogging, a lot of my online time is taken up with work social media stuff, but I'll do my best to allocate some time to my own blog and all of my lovely followers - thanks for your support :)
So I thought it might be an idea to catch up on some of the projects I did for the recent Spring Craft Retreat at The Papeterie in Aberdeen. In case you don't know, they hold a craft retreat twice a year in April and September - and one of the things that sets it apart from other retreats is that YOU can choose whether you go for 1, 2 or 3 days, YOU can choose to take the accommodation package or organise your own. AND YOU also have a choice of classes to pick from. 
Aberdeen might seem like a long way away for some of you, BUT we have a fantastic international airport here in Aberdeen with great links to most regional UK airports as well as regular flights to and from all over Europe and beyond.
Anyway, getting back to the projects - I taught 9 classes over the 3 days, hard work but great fun and very rewarding ...

Hello strangers

Hi there, long time no see :) I'm not going to bore you with apologies, I just haven't had time to do much crafting let alone have time to blog about it, but I'm back to report on the Spring craft retreat at The Papeterie - its been a lot of hard work, but it was worth every minute.
This was the first retreat where we had 3 days of classes, tiring but great fun!
On Friday, I only taught one class - the Bright Distress Box. Anyone who knows me, knows I love bright colours - I've never really been a subtle pastel kind of girl.

Altered Wine Box and a Giveaway

First I'm going to show you about the second project I taught at the September Retreat at The Papeterie. I decided to alter a wine box using Letraset Alcohol Inks.
The thing I like the most about alcohol inks is the fact that they dry almost instantly - no waiting for paints to dry! I have no patience lol

Neon and Aquamarker Cards

Blogging my last class of the retreat now - with a wee taster of the water based markers from Letraset. We used Neon markers and Aquamarkers and the embossed resist technique in 2 different ways to make these cards.
The first one, we simply used white embossing powder to emboss the image onto watercolour paper then coloured the image with neon markers

and the second one.... we coloured the newspaper background stamp with an aquamarker then clear embossed another image over the top, then cloured with aquamarkers

Bonus Evening Class

For all the ladies who had booked the accommodation package for the Craft Retreat, we threw in an optional bonus evening class, so this is where we had our evening meal and then our class....

But before we got crafty, we got to stuff our faces - wasn't going to bother with dessert, but decided the Bailey's Chocolate Pot needed some love.....

So for the bonus class I decided to introduce the ladies to some quick and easy water-based marker techniques using Letraset Aquamarkers, Neon markers and Metallic markers. Here's the first sample I made using Neon markers, the Tim Holtz Fanciful Flight die, watercolour paper and I used some PB stamps but the ladies used Marion Emberson "Sunshine & Flowers" stamps...

the ladies had free reign to use the aquamarkers and neon markers and here are some of the lovely samples they made with these stamps and the butterfly die... from Louise, Anda and Meg (please click on each to see them larger)

  

for the second tag, I went for a grungier look using Metallic Markers, Tim Holtz mini blueprint stamps and Tim Holtz Gadget Gears die cut grungeboard.

Back again with more pics from the retreat and another project. This was my second project on Sunday, my Gorjuss/Promarker/Flexmarker Journal...

We used the Docrafts - Gorjuss New Heights stamp set...

and some Promarker and Flexmarkers to colour it.
