Prep & Landing

Well this is a first for me.... Charlotte asked if I'd take a table at the Craft Night this Thursday evening at The Papeterie so I've been thinking about what to do. Just for a change I thought I would do something that didn't involve promarkers, yes I know! and No, I don't have a fever or anything lol. (to find out about all the upcoming demos, classes and special events that Charlotte has planned at The Papeterie, check their new updated blog)
So, I've been kitting up for that this evening - times 50 :)
Now, where's my slave to give me a massage now that my shoulders are all knotted up with all that trimming and stamping - oh that's right he's got man flu.
So I'm really looking forward to going to my first craft night, can't wait to meet all these new faces.

Today was busy busy - Willow was off school, looks like she's getting the bug that I've had for a week now, Graham's got it too. And I'm just not a great nurse, I don't do sympathy - I think it's an Aquarian thing!
Faithy had an appt at the kids hospital, and they have these fantastic huge Alvin and the Chipmunks figures - and my little drama queen had to have her pic taken with them...

Right, better go to bed - it's school photo day tomorrow, so I need to try and get them all up and make sure they are particularly smart in the morning

Letraset Alcohol Inks

Ugh, it's Monday again and busy busy - can't believe it's a week since we were rubbing shoulders with the King of Craft :)
I just want to thank all the ladies who came to see my demo at The Papeterie on Saturday morning - a couple of ladies took along images of their own that they had stamped out so I could have a go at showing them how I would colour them and I think they were quite pleased with what I showed them. So in future, if you come to my demonstrations feel free to stamp out any images you're struggling with and I'll see what I can do to help out. It also made the demo more interesting for me - it's always fun to be put on the spot :)
I'd also like to thanks all the ladies on my class in the afternoon. We all decorated a papier mache box with the new Letraset Alcohol Inks, and the ladies all seemed to have great fun die-cutting, embossing and colouring their own embellishments with the inks, we used various different surfaces including recycling the acetate packaging from some of my sizzix and spellbinders dies.
So today I'm off to see my consultant - oh joy. And the rest of the week's going to be pretty busy too, with a hospital appt for Faith, the kids school photo's, Willow's class assembly to attend, Craft Night on Thursday evening at The Papeterie... no rest for the wicked eh? ;)

Have you seen what that naughty Kath has posted on her blog today? She's posted a very sneaky not-so-much-as-a-peek-but-a-whole-cat-out-of-the-bag pic of her project at the next GJWTHF day - so if you fancy joining us don't hang around or you could miss out. To reserve your place just email me.

The Coo's Tail

Yup, as usual I'm the coo's tail, with my pics and news from the NEC.
Well, I'm sure you've seen all the pics from Kath and The Papeterie, so I'm going to share a couple of mine too. But before I do, the highlight of the trip for me just had to be meeting Mario, if you don't already know Mario is Tim Holtz's business manager and he's responsible for all the BTS (Behind The Scenes) tweets which give us a little insider info on the goings-on of Tim. And my claim to fame is that Mario follows me on twitter :)
So here's me getting my pic taken with Mario, and naughty Sir Tim trying to get in on the action lol
And the one that Kath took after she had ordered Tim out of the shot lol...
Mario very kindly took one of all of us with Tim too....

After our celeb spotting and cosying up with Mario and Tim we got down to the serious business of looking at all the scrumptious new goodies that will be coming to The Papeterie soon, and here are some things that caught my eye...

This is one of the workshops we attended - loved the project, but the tutor in my opinion left a lot to be desired. We'd have got on better if she'd just given us a photo of the finished project and we'd figured it out ourselves...... oh yeh that's pretty much what she did!!
And these are the quick cards we made at the Spellbinders workshop - which was really fun, and check out the goodies we got ...
the new cut, fold and tuck dies
Ooops, tied that ribbon a bit too tight :S
Then as if I hadn't had enough excitement, I got home to this wee parcel......
And inside was the very stamp set that Tim has been using to demo the new Distress Markers

Back tomorrow with some pics of yesterday's alcohol ink class

Competition Time

Morning,
well, we got back from Stitches safely - more about that later - for now I want to tell you about a few things that are going on...
The Papeterie are holding a special card competition which closes on the 3rd March. There are £140 worth of prizes up for grabs plus another £30 of prizes for under-12's entries. You'll find all the details over on The Papeterie's blog here.
I'm excited about this because Charlotte has asked me and my fellow GJWTHF buddies, to judge the competition. And you can enter as many times as you like, so get your entries in quick.

Talking of The Papeterie, I'm going to be there this Saturday morning demonstrating promarkers, flexmarkers and the new Letraset alcohol inks - so please pop in and say hello. I have an alcohol ink class in the afternoon which is fully booked, but if you are interested in learning more about using the alcohol inks then let Charlotte know and we'll see about doing another class. Here's a sneaky peek of what we're doing at this class.....

Places are filling up for the GJWTHF days in Aberdeen and Perth - have you reserved your place yet?
You'll find all the Aberdeen info here and the Perth info here.

It's nearly time..

Well, this evening I'll be sitting on a plane bound for Birmingham. Sorry, but I just can't say Birmingham without putting on the accent lol
Kath, Charlotte, Rachel and I will be on our way to the Craft, Hobby & Stitch International trade show on Monday and Tuesday.
I'm trying to figure out why I can't use any of the blogging apps on my iphone, so in the meantime I'll try and tweet as much as I can, with loads of pics and sneaky peeks. Click here to follow my twitter, or you can click on the wee button at the top of my sidebar.

FAQ's for GJWTHF

that's Frequently Asked Questions about Girls Just Want To have Fun craft days
I'm often asked lots of questions about our GJWTHF craft days, so I thought I'd post them here to clear things up.
So if there is ever anything you wanted to know about our crafty days then don't be scared to ask, I dinna bite!

I'm a cardmaker/scrapbooker, are these crafty days suitable for me?
Absolutely, the techniques and products that we use for our projects can be translated to a range of different crafts
I'm a beginner/intermediate/experienced crafter, what about me?
Yes, we think that we cater for all abilities.
Do we bring anything with us?
No, just yourself :) If you have a favourite pair of scissors then feel free to take them along with you but we don't have the space to accommodate everyone taking a tote with them. We provide all the materials and tools you'll need on the day.
What about payment, can I pay cash/card on the day?
Sorry, no, we need to be able to plan, prepare and kit ahead of time so please send a cheque in advance, when you reserve your place you will be sent booking info which tells you when we need your payment.
What, exactly will we be making on the day?
That's Top Secret I'm afraid :) But you will be making 3 unique projects that you won't see anywhere else. Keep a look out on the Facebook Page and Kath, Anne and Debbi's blogs for sneaky peeks.
I can't attend, but can I buy a kit instead?
- We make up a limited number of kits and these are exclusively available only to people who attend the crafty days, sorry.
So what actually happens on the day?
You arrive at 9.30am so we can get you all settled in and you can all have a tea/coffee then we split you into 3 groups and each group sits down for a 2 hour workshop with either Kath, Anne or Debbi. We then have a break for lunch - we lay on a simple buffet lunch and refreshments. Then the afternoon is spent doing another 2 x 2 hour workshops with the other 2 tutors. So you will be going home with 3 unique projects and hopefully you'll have had lots of fun.
Who are the tutors?
Kath Stewart designs and demonstrates for Fiskars, and is on the design teams for Craftwork Cards, The Ribbon Girl and Penny Black Saturday Challenge. Kath regularly demonstrates and teaches techniques using her favourite Hero Arts and Tim Holtz products
You can find Kath's blog here.
Anne Tindall runs her own shop, The Sew Room at Alford where she holds regular sewing workshops featuring her own designs, as well as selling the latest fabrics, Annie Sloan paints, and gifts. Anne's blog is here and The Sew Room blog is here.
Debbi Glennie (that's me) designs for Letraset Ltd and Angel Crafts and regularly demonstrates and teaches Promarker, Flexmarker and alcohol ink techniques.
When and where are the GJWTHF crafty days?
GJWTHF 3 will be at The Papeterie in Aberdeen on 7th April
GJWTHF 4 will be at Tulloch Community Centre, Perth on 9th June
we're hoping to be able to fix dates for Newcastle, Banff, Aberdeen and Perth for the 2nd half of 2012 - if you would like more info about any of those venues please email Debbi.
Does GJWTHF have it's own website or blog?
No, we don't have a blog, but we do have a Facebook Page - please like the page so you can see all the latest info and sneaky peeks
If you have any other questions about any of the events, just shout

My Sweet Valentine

Morning,
well it's the last day of the kids' half-term/in-service days so I'm taking them to the local Brewsters to play so that I can minimise the devastation at home.
So today I thought I'd share a wee Valentine project that Letraset asked me to do for their blog.
You can find the step by step tutorial over on the Letraset blog.
Image: Making Valentines from Saturated Canary, coloured with promarkers and flexmarkers on Diamond White card from The Papeterie.
The box used to be a Lindor choc box, painted with "Paloma" Annie Sloan Paint, stamped with Victorian Velvet Distress Ink and Kaisercraft grunge texture stamp. Red grosgrain ribbon from stash and fleur de lis nestabilities die to cut the red card (from The Papeterie)

I'd like to enter her into:

We're so excited to be taking the GJWTF crafty days on tour, and hopefully we'll be adding more dates around the UK soon.

We haven't been able to work out suitable dates for Banff or Newcastle for the first half of 2012, but we're hoping to get something worked out for the second half of the year - so if you want to be the first to know about either of those venues then please email me and I'll pop you on the list.
There are still places available for Aberdeen, again just email me to reserve your place. We'll start posting some sneaky peeks soon.

CAS in red and white

It's been ages since I've done any crafting that hasn't been for work, so I really enjoyed making a card for a friend.
And this morning I got some really exciting news - I won a giveaway on the Tim Holtz blog, and to be honest I'm not sure if I'm more excited about my name being on his blog or about getting some of his fab new goodies hot off the press after CHA. So of course after I'd finished squealing like a little pig - thank goodness the kids were still in bed - I fired off an email to the lovely Mario. Mario must think I'm a bit of a headcase because he said "I can hear the excitement in your email" lol Now I just have to try and be patient and wait for my wee parcel to fly over the pond.

So here's my card...
Image: Little Red from Gorjuss Girls (PI) coloured with promarkers, greeting from LOTV

I'd like to enter her into:

Hiya,
just a wee quickie from me tonight - had a wee jaunt over to the best craft shop in Aberdeen, you know... The Papeterie to meet Lyn and Kath and of course Charlotte, Pearl and Rachel.

So I thought I'd let you know that The Papeterie blog has been relaunched - there are loads of new things - pages for demos, classes, and even a competition.
So pop over there and have a nosey around.

If you read my blog regularly you'll know that I'm a big fan of Diamond White cardstock for colouring with promarkers, it's made by the Arjo Wiggins mill in Aberdeen and is sold at The Papeterie. It comes in 120, 160, 250 and 300 gsm weights and is sold as loose stock - a deep box costs £5.99 and takes roughly 160 sheets of the heaviest weight card. I prefer to use the 250gsm for most projects.
If you would like to try it out, just contact Charlotte at The Papeterie and ask for a sample of Diamond White, she can also send you a sample pack of all the other cards and papers they do.

Fancy a crafty class?

Evening folks :)
well that's Graham away for a fortnight again, poor wee Faithy takes it especially hard and was devastated this morning when we took her to school. And of course daddy then feels like crap for leaving.
But the good thing about taking him over to the heliport is I get to pop in past The Papeterie for a catch up with the girls.
So I thought I'd share with you some of the things that are coming up in February at the fabbest craft shop in Aberdeen (In my opinion of course)...

First up, on Saturday 11th Feb there is a free "quick cards" demo in the morning - a great opportunity to be inspired for all those last minute cards we get caught out with, well now you'll never get caught out again.
And in the afternoon, the gorgeous Charlotte herself will be taking her Vintage Notebook class. She'll be using Tim Holtz products and showing various techniques to create a beautiful notebook - ideal to use as a crafty journal.
In fact here's one she made for me - and I use it as a colouring journal, I colour an image with promarkers/flexmarkers and list the colours I've used for future reference. - So handy!,
Not that you need any more incentive to book a place on this class, but everyone who attends the class will then get 10% off any Tim Holtz products purchased on the day. For any details of any of the classes at The Papeterie, please tel 01224 802337

I'll be at The Papeterie demonstrating Letraset promarkers and flexmarkers on Saturday 25th February (morning only) and I'm more than happy to answer any questions or show you anything you want demonstrated so don't be scared to ask.
I have a class in the afternoon, but it's full - we'll be decorating a gift box using the new Letraset alcohol inks and various different textures and surfaces. So if you didn't manage to book a place this time and quite fancy it then let the girls at The Papeterie know and we'll see what we can do about running this class again. Here's a wee sneaky peek

And the last class for February is a very special one - it's especially for anyone who fancies making their own wedding invitations. Lots of ideas to inspire you to make your own wedding stationery and wow your guests. This is from 1-3pm on Sunday 26th Feb. Again, just call 01224 802337 to book your place.

New Baby 1
